top lawyers train for city's first half marathon 30/09/2008 An energetic team of solicitors from Birmingham and London based law firm Martineau, has been pounding the city streets in preparation for Birmingham's first ever half marathon on 26 October.
The four solicitors, who are currently training hard for the 13.1 mile run, also known as "the race against climate change", say they are excited about the prospect of finally crossing the finish line on Broad Street, next to Centenary Square.
Andrew Adams, partner and Head of Commercial Disputes Management at Martineau, said: "This is a great event for the city and we are very much looking forward to the challenge.
"At Martineau we are increasingly focused on offering services which respond to the full range of climate change and sustainability initiatives, encompassing areas such as renewable energy, biofuels and urban regeneration.
"We are a founding member of the Legal Sector Alliance (LSA) which was set up to encourage the legal industry to address climate change issues.
"Our involvement in Birmingham's half marathon is a further mark of our commitment against climate change and, through participating, we hope to be able to help raise awareness of the issue, while also trying to beat our own personal targets for the race!"
Martineau has launched its own Climate Change Portal at www.climatechange-forum.co.uk in response to growing demand for legal services surrounding this key issue. The portal serves as a useful reference point for climate change policy and law with links to relevant legislation, policy documents and articles.
The half marathon has been organised by Birmingham City Council and is sponsored by EDF Energy.
