gillespie joins martineau 12/05/2009 One of the region's leading employment specialists has joined Martineau in a move that further bolsters the firm's expanding employment team.
The Birmingham and London law firm, which saw a 15% increase in turnover in the firm's last financial year, welcomes Michael Gillespie, former head of employment at Cobbetts' Birmingham office.
Gillespie joins Martineau as a consultant, providing specialist expertise across all areas of employment law, a field which has seen significant growth as a result of the current economic downward spiral and the expanding scope of legislation affecting the workplace.
Prior to Cobbetts, where he was for over 10 years, Michael's professional career saw him work for other local firms, Pinsent & Co and Gateley Wareing. He was also previously the regional representative of the Employment Lawyers Association.
Jane Byford, head of employment at Martineau, commented: "Michael's appointment is a major coup for Martineau and is a welcome addition to the 12-strong employment team.
"With thirty years' experience in the field, this key hire will enable us to continue to offer the highest level of service to our clients in an area that continues to grow."
Michael's expertise covers Employment Tribunal claims, as well as non-contentious matters such as drafting and advising on contracts of employment, policies and procedures.
A regular speaker on all topics relating to employment law, Michael is well known in legal circles throughout the West Midlands.
Bill Barker, Martineau's managing partner, commented: "Attracting a specialist of Michael's calibre is testament to the reputation of Martineau and the quality of the service it provides.
"As a firm, we are maintaining consistent growth levels and turnover has increased significantly over the past few years. Our employment team continues to expand, particularly in light of the current economic climate, and Michael's appointment will considerably strengthen capability in this specific area."
