key sectors: energy & utilities
We understand the importance of the rapidly changing and increasingly
interrelated utilities sectors, especially the impact of developments
in the gas, electricity and water sectors and the areas of climate
change and renewable energy. We have an enviable track record
working in this field. We advise on a wide range of contractual
and regulatory issues such as:
- current developments in the
gas and electricity sectors
- the underlying contractual arrangements
- the inter-related competition law and regulatory regimes
- the
growing renewable generation sector especially onshore and
offshore wind farms
- trading (including the new
EU emissions
trading
scheme and related Kyoto flexibility mechanisms)
Key clients
include National Grid, RWE Innogy, South Staffordshire
Water and British Energy. Recent deals include advising Transco (now National Grid Metering) on the implementation
of new gas metering arrangements; advising developer Warwick
Energy on the consenting of its Round 1 Offshore Wind farm,
the subsequent sale of that project, and advising in respect
of its
further Round 2 projects; and handling a large number of
complex disputes for a national energy supplier. The team is
led by
partner Andrew Whitehead, with assistance from over 20
lawyers, many
of whom are partners. |
