expertise: private capital
At
Martineau we set the very highest standard of expertise when undertaking
all aspects of private capital work. Our aim is to provide a comprehensive
and effective service that recognises and achieves the goals of
the client
and organises his affairs in a manner that is tax efficient yet provides
the flexibility for continued enjoyment of wealth. We have been
working
with the private capital for over 170 years and have built both a regional
and national reputation. The legal 500 acknowledges that "Martineau
Johnson has an outstanding reputation within this field" and
with no less than 10 of our team being members of the Society of
Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) we believe our strength and
depth of know how continues to grow and enhance the service we
offer.
Our work
includes:
- strategic estate planning - bringing to bear a wealth of expertise
in many vital tax issues, including detailed knowledge of the
exemptions, reliefs and various tax planning schemes available
- wills and living wills, with a particular emphasis on tailoring
a will to meet current needs and minimise inheritance tax
- probate and estate administration, offering specialist expertise
in the handling of (sometimes sensitive) family issues, advising
on the terms of wills or the application of intestacy rules
as well as preparing for and obtaining grants of representation
- trusts - in which we currently administer continuing trusts
in excess of £200 million and are able to advise on the
drafting and construction of settlements and trusts, the preparation
and
execution of ancillary documents and the duties and liabilities
of trustees. We also act as trustees and deal with general administration
- charities, for which we provide
a specialist team of charity lawyers which looks after institutional
and private charities with total assets in excess of £250
million. Ecclesiastical law is a particular specialisation
- international
advice on all aspects of trusts and estates, which
may include complex issues of international law and taxation
- not least the interpretation of double taxation
treaties. We are also able to draw on the expertise of our international
associates via Multilaw.
Multilaw is an International association of legal
practices giving us the ability to provide you with
specialist
advice where necessary in virtually any foreign jurisdiction
in
the world
