ipt: information technology

We work for both the public and the private sector and cover all areas of law applicable to information technology: from software licences and hardware acquisition, through to a large scale outsource or IT litigation.

We work to make sure we really understand the technology and the IT strategies of our clients. We have a strong track record of assisting small and start-up IT companies through the process of high growth to investment and/or IPO. Our lawyers have a keen interest in, and understanding of, growing areas of IT such as serious games.

Our team drafts, advises upon and negotiates IT contracts including those for hardware and software procurement; services agreements (including software consultancy, development, implementation, maintenance, and hosting); licensing agreements; and outsourcing agreements.

In the online environment we have advised on electronic trading and website issues, complex privacy and data protection issues (including in relation to RFID issues and PCI DSS compliance), domain name disputes, online gambling, and online advertising.

We also advise on the commercialisation of software developed within the NHS and education sector: for example conventional licensing, using resellers, hosted solutions or software as a service, partnering, spin-outs, and free and open source models.
